Lasik Eye Surgery: Taking
Lasik To Another Level
Lasik surgery has been one
of the best innovative breakthroughs in the field of eye
surgery. It was developed not quite long ago, and yet it
still continues to improve, especially now that
technology is beginning to reach its zenith. Thus, a
higher form of Lasik has come into being which is known
as Custom Lasik Surgery.
What Is Custom Lasik?
Do not be surprised if you hear a variety of terms in
the market regarding Custom Lasik. This procedure
actually comes in a number of terms such as
wavefront-guided Lasik and wavefront Lasik. However,
they are all the same.
This improved version of Lasik analyzes how your eye
processes images by the use of 3D measurements. This 3D
measurement then serves as a guide for the laser to
effectively reshape your cornea.
By the use of this kind of technology, those
exceptionally precise and customized vision corrections
that used to be unattainable by the use of traditional
Lasik, eyeglasses or contact lenses is now easily
achieved in just one surgery.
Qualifying Factors
Just like in any other surgeries, certain qualifying
factors should be met before you are accommodated for
surgery. First off, the guidelines set by the Food and
Drug Administration should be fulfilled before you are
considered for a custom Lasik procedure. |
|
There are also several
factors playing on your qualification. One would be the
custom laser system that would be used for you, along
with the required thickness of the cornea. There’s a
high probability that you’ll be considered to be a
candidate if you have a condition such as mild to
moderately high levels of usual vision defects like
astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia.
How It Works
In this procedure, the machine measures the ability of
your eyes to focus light. After the measurement is done,
a 3D map is made, which exhibits irregularities
regarding the way your eyes process images that it sees.
The information garnered and placed in the map serves as
a guide for the laser to customize your treatment and
alter the shape of your eye's corneal surface in order
to correct such irregularities.
What’s So Special About It?
Ordinary vision imperfections like hyperopia, myopia and
astigmatism can all be corrected by the use of
prescription glasses, contacts, and traditional Lasik
surgery. However, irregularities that are associated
with your eye's optical system cannot be addressed by
such methods. Nonetheless, the answer to that problem
has been resolved when custom Lasik surgery was
developed.
Benefits
Custom Lasik is truly groundbreaking because it has the
capability to enhance not only how much you are able to
see, but also the quality of what you could see, in
relation to sensitivity, contrast, and other fine
details. This is consequential to a lesser risk of
post-surgery complications, like halos, glare, and night
vision difficulties.
How much you can see would depend on lower-order
aberrations which are vision defects that are associated
with typical refractive errors like hyperopia,
astigmatism, and myopia, which can all be treated by
traditional Lasik.
However, how well you can see would depend on the
existence of visual distortions or higher-order
aberrations. Additionally, it would depend on the type
and number of distortions present. These higher-order
aberrations include irregularities that are different
from the common type of refractive errors. Unlike the
traditional Lasik procedure, Custom Lasik has the
capability to treat both kinds of aberrations
excellently.
