Procedures
Another procedure available at Visionary
Ophthalmology is corneal transplant surgery. Dr.
Martinez has performed thousands of corneal
transplant surgeries and was one of the first in the
area to offer automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK),
which offers less postoperative astigmatism and a
faster recovery.
Dr. Martinez is also one of only a few eye surgeons
in the United States offering corneal tattooing.
This procedure can benefit patients with disfigured
corneas who are not candidates for cornea transplant
surgery.
Corneal Surgery
Here at Visionary Ophthalmology, we can address mild
myopia (nearsightedness) and keratoconus (corneal
thinning) with INTACS® corneal inserts. INTACS
inserts gently reshape the curvature of your cornea
from within, enhancing the natural shape of your eye
to correct your vision. INTACS are a flexible
alternative in that they can be replaced or removed
if your vision correction needs to be changed.
Refractive Lens Exchange
Refractive lens exchange replaces the natural lens
of your eye with an advanced Multifocal or
accommodating intraocular lens (IOL), allowing clear
vision at all distances. Our eye doctors utilize the
very latest microsurgical techniques and lenses,
including ReSTOR® and ReZOOM™ intraocular lens
implants, and Visian® and Verisyse® phakic lenses.
Visian ICL Implantable Collamer Lens
The Visian ICL, often referred to as an implantable
contact lens, is inserted into the eye during a
short surgical procedure. Unlike LASIK or PRK, the
Visian ICL implantation does not permanently change
the shape of the eye. Also, the Visian ICL may
improve your quality of vision better than many
other refractive procedures, because the Visian ICL
is ideal for some patients with contraindications
for laser refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK).
Diabetic Eye Disease
If you need
treatment for diabetic retinopathy or retinal
vascular disease, you’ll feel confident knowing that
the eye doctors at Visionary Ophthalmology are
highly skilled in today’s most advanced laser
techniques. Plus, Dr. Allen specializes in medical
retina and offers you advanced training in this
area.
Glaucoma Treatment
When treating glaucoma, our eye doctors always look
at conservative approaches first, such as
pressure-reducing eye drops. Effective in-office
laser treatment is available for more advanced cases
of glaucoma.
Refractive Surgery
Visionary Ophthalmology is one of only a handful of
area practices that offer
CustomVue™ LASIK with the
VISX® STAR S4. This innovative laser uses WaveScan®
Technology, the WavePrint® Map and 3D ActiveTrak®
for the best LASIK results possible. LASIK can
safely and effectively eliminate nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Martinez is a pioneer in refractive surgery
and pterygium,
having participated in clinical trials that resulted
in the development of the Excimer laser for LASIK
and PRK. Our eye doctors use the IntraLase® Method
to perform the important first step in the LASIK
procedure, which is to create the corneal flap.
IntraLase achieves this with rapid pulses of laser
light; the procedure is 100% blade-free.
Cataract Surgery
Together, our eye doctors have performed many
thousands of successful cataract surgeries. They use
the revolutionary “no-stitch,” “no-patch,”
“no-injection” method. With this simple outpatient
procedure, your cataract is removed and a modern
intraocular lens is implanted to restore your
vision. It’s quick, safe, effective and offers a
rapid recovery time of just a day or two.
On-Site Eye Care Surgeries
Visionary Ophthalmology’s state-of-the-art facility
is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment
available, including both YAG and argon laser
technology. Glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy can be
treated right in our office, affording you the
ultimate in convenience and efficiency. Other
in-office procedures include:
NearVision SM Conductive Keratoplasty® (CK) —
This FDA-approved treatment is recommended for
people who are over 40 and have
Presbyopia, which is
the inability to focus on nearby objects. CK uses
gentle radiofrequency energy to reshape the cornea
and restore near focus.
Pterygium
Surgery — Pterygium is a benign thickening of
the outer coating of the eye that grows onto the
cornea. It can become dark in color, irritated and
even disrupt vision. Dr. Martinez is an
internationally recognized leader in Pterygium
surgery; he has performed thousands of procedures
that offer excellent cosmetic outcomes and an
extremely low recurrence rate of 2.16%.
